Blasts from the Past !

 Ever seen a Pre-CJ6 ??

I was browsing around the 'net and stumbled across g503.com and some interesting pictures.  While flipping through some pics of some Ford and Willys MBs I came across this odd picture that has a striking resemblance to a CJ-6.  I have nick-named them "Pre-CJ6's"

Then I found a link to several pictures of these "stretched" MB Jeeps.
Below are the best of the ones I found.

This one has four individual seats and a bench seat in the far back.

Here is a Coast Guard "stretched" Jeep compared to a stock Jeep MB.

This is a close-up of the Coast Guard Jeep.

and another of the Coast Guard Jeep.

The caption tells about this one named "Overloaded".
I love the cartoon duck holding the wrench and the bomb.

Here is a "stretched" Jeep named "The Purple Heart".  The caption says it was
built from parts of wrecked Jeeps, a French motor car and a German plane.  It
had an X added to its hood number to note that it was considered Experimental.

Also, note the metal bar rising vertically from the front bumper.  Those were called
"wire cutters" and were to help guard against wires being strung across roads to
injure the occupants of the Jeep.

The last one I found was in color.

Pretty neat to find so many pre-CJ-6s.  Makes you wonder if these "stretched"
Army Jeeps were the catalyst behind the design of the Universal CJ-6.

                     See ya soon, TimD
